New Britain - Attorney Adrian Baron has been appointed to New Britain's seven member Charter Revision Committee to review proposed changes to the city's charter. Revisions to the charter — which is essentially the city’s constitution — have not been on the ballot in 16 years. Settled in 1687, New Britain was incorporated as a new parish under the name New Britain Society in 1754. Chartered in 1850 as a township and in 1871 as a city, New Britain had separated from the nearby town of Farmington, Connecticut. A consolidation charter was adopted in 1905.

Changes to the charter could have far reaching effects on the city’s 72,000 residents including

1. Whether the Mayor’s term of office should be extended from 2 to 4 years.

2. Should the Tax and City Collector be appointed positions rather than elective ones

3. Should the Common Council eliminate ward representation and return to a strictly At Large System

The President of the Polonia Business Association, Adrian is a partner in the law offices of Podorowsky Thompson & Baron. He has served as the Chairman of the City’s Ethics Commission and as a member of the Economic Development Commission under both Republican and Democrat administrations. Attorney Baron has been active in neighborhood revitalization efforts in the city.

Additional members of the Committee include Attorney Michael Carrier, Attorney Mary Pokorski, Catherine Cheney, Michael Davis, Peter Gostin, and Efrain Rosado

Adrian is a graduate of New York’s Pace University School of Law and holds a certificate in International Business Law & Trade through a joint program with the Uniwersytet Jagielloński in Krakow, Poland and Washington D.C.’s Columbus School of Law. His undergraduate degree is from Manhattanville College in both English Literature and Political Science.
